Did you know that globally, girls aged 5-14 spend 160 million more hours every day on unpaid care and domestic work than boys of the same age?
On October 11, we celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child, a day dedicated to recognizing the rights and challenges faced by girls worldwide. As United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres eloquently puts it, "Women and girls can lead us to a fairer future... let us amplify girls' voices and recommit to working together to build a world where every girl can lead and thrive."
This year, UNICEF and Plan International are hosting a special online event on October 11 at 9:30 PM (Asia/Manila time). This event aims to bring together adolescent girls with advocates for their rights, including UN leaders, NGOs, businesses, and governments. It's a powerful showcase of a world where girls actively shape government policies, business practices, and research priorities. To be part of this transformative vision, you can register to get involved.
